Autumn 2013 update

Hey everyone, got a couple of updates:

A new, eight-song 7-inch of OVENS is coming very soon through Catholic Guilt. It's a companion piece to the 7" that came out back in 2011. Stay tuned.

Speaking of that OVENS 7-inch from 2011: it's being repressed now. There will be 150 additional copies available for anybody who missed it the first time.

There are only 10 copies of the VIOLENT CHANGE LP left in stock. Hit up the webstore if you want one!

As you likely know by now, earlier this year Tony Molina of OVENS released his critically acclaimed solo LP, Dissed and Dismissed, and has been out playing shows too. You should definitely buy the record and see his band if you get the opportunity!

If you're in San Francisco, go visit Kayo Books—they don't have records, but they do have lots of great mystery and sci-fi books, and even have a "Catholic Guilt" section (pictured above).

Thanks for reading! Be in touch again soon.

VIOLENT CHANGE LP - Available NOW!

Hey everyone, long time no see! Hope everything's cool on your end.

We're very excited and honored to announce Catholic Guilt's second release (and first full-length): the appallingly brilliant debut LP from VIOLENT CHANGE, which you can BUY NOW FROM OUR WEBSTORE!

From out of San Francisco comes a record both surprising and stunning, strangely out of time yet more raw, real, and now than anything else we've heard lately. Violent Change is a melodic, art-damaged, deeply affecting, thoroughly great album from a band as influenced by UK '77 punk and Killed By Death comps as it is by GUIDED BY VOICES and early BEE GEES. You can stream the whole album below via Soundcloud:

The band, led by songwriter Matt Bleyle (formerly of SOPORS), assembled this 16-song LP from cassette recordings made at home between fall of 2011 and summer of 2012. Bleyle recorded most of the songs entirely by himself, but the record also features a few full-band recordings, including two songs written and sung by bandmate Tony Molina (OVENS). The LP follows on the tails of the band's first release, a terrific four-song 7-inch released late last year through Melters.

Ranging from agitated punk and noisy sound collages to cryptic ballads and pure pop, VIOLENT CHANGE has a peculiar, magnetic internal logic that becomes alternately more apparent and more mysterious with each listen. It's seriously one of the best records we've ever heard—a future classic of the pop underground. Easily our favorite San Francisco album since the HOSPITALS' Hairdryer Peace. We know you'll love it (and play it over and over, like we have) if you give it a chance.

If you enjoyed our now sold-out first release, the OVENS 7-inch, you definitely won't want to miss out on this one. It's limited to 330 copies on black vinyl, and every purchase comes with a free digital download of the album.

Dig the stream? YOU CAN BUY A COPY RIGHT NOWFor SF Bay Area residents, the LP is available locally in San Francisco through Aquarius, Amoeba, and Thrillhouse Records. For wholesale inquiries, please EMAIL US. Thank you for your interest and support!
